Caricature- Alex & Jess heart, family caricature owl, cat b-day '09, Sea World leftover

These are my good friends Alex and Jess. aww, look how cute they are in the photos. I drew this for Jess' birthday a few months ago. Jess has been wanting me to draw them for a while and I have a habit of putting artwork off especially for friends, as I want to make it extra awesometastical for my friends...and so I never feel like I'm good enough so I keep sketching and practicing but I still never feel ready to put pencil to final paper so I just keep putting it off. So usually, it takes something that forces me to get it done like a special occasion ala Jess' birthday to force me to just put something down otherwise I'll never do it. I guess I'm better with deadlines...although I still wait to the last minute like this, heh. that's why working in a theme park is good for me, cause I HAVE to draw the person.

I think I prolly over complicated it by trying to make that overall heart shape, I tend to overthink when I have too much time (again, that's why my theme park caricatures are usually better) thus made their faces more forced. I'm going to do another one of them. oh and Jess is a music buff so I made her pony tail into a treble clef. also check out Alex's art blog, he just updated it with some AWESOME beer label art he got commissioned to do!

eh. didn't go as exaggerated as I wanted/hoped. another caricature for a birthday.

a birthday card for my good friend, Cat Hupp. It's been a while since I've drawn a birthday card, I used to do a lot of them like this for friends. I forgot how fun they were to do.

a left over caricature I forgot to post drawn at Sea World, Orlando when I visited there this past Christmas. I mostly like the connect line from him to her forehead. they had a good laugh and were good sports. I miss that park :(

 ------------------------------------
still have some cripple con 3 artwork to post. I've been mad busy getting things ready for Dorney park which our opening weekend was this past weekend. I drew a bunch of lame-o fast and boring sketches at Dorney the other day. ugh. and of course that's when I sell a bunch of frames with them. I do have a few decent caricatures I drew while I was helping out Six Flags, NJ a couple weeks ago, will try to get to posting them sometime soon as whale as some figure drawing I did at a local drink n draw at the Hard Bean in Bethlehem. which I'll prolly be going on a monthly basis. every 2nd thursday of each month. next one is next week!

I'm tweaking how I'm approaching caricatures a bit, taking some adjustment but hopefully I'll get it worked out soon. Cute-ica-CHUAs, here we come! heh. we'll see...
----------------
misc random ramble thought time!
I'm not a dog person. nor am I a cat person. not that I don't like animals I just don't like the concept of having an animal as a pet running around free in living quarters. I do have an exception, I'm fine with whales living in the house. they're especially nice during the winter as their blubber is good to keep the heat in. it's kind of annoying to have to slice their skin open and live inside them though. but yeah, it's nice and warm inside. also, some guy with a wooden leg and spear keeps trying to sell me life insurance or encyclopedias or something. won't take a hint that I'm not interested.

Caricature- Beach Wedding Commission (SEPT 2008)

Here's another wedding caricature commission I did a few months ago. I didn't go too crazy. I actually pretty much fully pencilled a prior version but realized that that was even tamer and decided to scrap it and start all over. This actually took me a decent amount of time, a lot longer than I thought it would. I had a hard time trying to figure out how to draw the girl, looking at it now with fresh eyes and more experience, it seems clear to me now. I didn't get a chance to work on it until about the night before it was due. I think I worked on this for about 20 hours straight. All-nighters are kinda fun sometimes, that constant intensity and focus feels good. and then when you get to finally sleep is good too, heh. This was a surprise gift to the groom, they both liked it.

Caricature- 24 Person Commission! (NOV 2007)

Here's a commission I did last year, NOVEMBER 2007, for the spa at Great Wolf Lodge, Poconos.
I didn't go too crazy and I'd exaggerate some features differently now that I have more experience but overall, I was happy with it. This is by far the most amount of people I've drawn in a caricature, I think the previous most might have been around 10. I had fun doing it and thought for kinda winging the placement of everyone, it came out decent. oh and only 1 person was offended, heh. and it's one of the ones I didn't go as exaggerated on too! funny how people react.

Well, I'll be going to Busch Gardens, Florida, to draw caricatures for a little while with super talented, Sean Gardner and gang. Hopefully, I'll do some crazy and better work so I'll have some new park sketches to post here. I've been doing a LOT of sketching and figuring things out recently and I think I figured some stuff out and am anxious to test it out in a park setting. so see ya in a bit! oh and I'll post the subpar work I did at last month's NCN convention when I get back.

Caricatures- Alex1, Anna6, Ashton, Cody2 , Cory, Ella2, commission (JULY 2007)

Caricatures of co-workers and 1 commission drawn in JULY 2007

This is the 1st of many that I drew of co-worker, Alex. Who just recently started caricatures and has an awesome sketch that just keeps getting better and better at lightning speed. He's definitely one to watch out for...look for him drawing in Memphis soon. This is one of my fav sketches too.

This is the 6th caricature of my friend, Anna. I love drawing her and was really happy with this one, also one of my favs.

my co-worker's friend came in one day and I drew him. I think his name was Ashton. I like the silliness of the sketch but I got carried away with the mouth and missed some of the bulk of his chin area.

co-worker, Cody, who is one really cool dude. my 1st one of him. I've drawn him 3 other times since and each one of him is one of my favs. He's got a great face for caricature, heh.

fellow caricaturist, Cory, at Dorney park. was happy with this one too. actually, if you haven't noticed, I'm usually pretty happy when I can just let loose and not worry and co-workers are always happy to oblige, heh.

2nd one of fellow caricaturist, Ela. This one is a lot better and crazier than my 1st one (see previous post) I put "Ela" in her eyeball shine.

1st one of fellow, caricaturist, Matty G. I like the eyes.

fellow caricaturist, Jen. she didn't think it looked like her.

here's another caricature commission.

Caricatures: Vanna 2! Marian 6 mouf, Julia 2! Tony, Ketchup/Mustard commission (JUNE 2007)

Here's some caricatures of friends and co-workers drawn during JUNE 2007.

Here's the 2nd one I drew of, Vanna!, fellow caricaturist at Dorney Park. This one is pretty creepy looking, heh.

This is JR. I mostly like this except for the sloppy gauge in the ear.

another one of co-worker, Tony. hee hee, I like the frown.

This is the 2nd one of co-worker, Julia! she's wacky but still cool ;)

The 6th one of co-worker, Marian. prolly my favorite one of her I've done so far. oh and there's Julia, looking goofy in the background, heh.

here's the 2nd of fellow caricaturist, Courtney, from Dorney Park. not as happy with likeness on this one. I did a couple more of her I'll post coming up.

here's a commission I did. would have done things a bit differently now but overall I was happy enough with it. the ketchup and mustard was an inside joke, she used to have that orange pinto, and the guy likes star wars.

More stuff from July 2007 coming up! and even crazier ones!
