caricatures- Cripple Con thr3some! (JAN 2010)

I'm still playing some cathupp on pics that I haven't gotten a chance to post. Here's the art I did at Cripple con 3 in San Antonio, TX this past January. It's the best yearly art/party you can possibly attend. I'll be there every year. The coolest and most talented people attend every year. You should too! Cripple con 4life will be Jan 13-16 2011! mark your calenders!

1. Nick Rodgers and Brian Oakes. this was awesome and hilarious. and too hard to explain, you had to have been there.

 2. Brent Noll. cool dude and artist from texas. He really wanted a caricature from me, wish I could have done a better one. likeness could have been better. I always feel bad when people that specifically want a sketch from me and I do an eh one for them.

3. Tawnya Hudnell & David Walz. I was pretty happy with this one. I liked their nose meshing area. afterwards, I realized that Lindsey (who I drew below) had done a sorta similar pose, not of the half and half face thing I did but of just the pose of David carrying a tiny Tawnya when she drew them last year. I wasn't thinking about that when I drew it, although I did really liked the one Lindsey did. maybe it was subconchris.

4. oops, I forgot to post this one. this is Ryan Haecker. He's made up of a shower head and soap.

 5. Alberto Gonzalez. eh, an ok quickie one.

 6. Chris Ochoa. I liked the likeness on it. like. like and ikes. I like the band, "the Like" seriously. check them out, they just released a new album. catchy fun throwback pop girl band. lead singer's got a sexy raspy voice. mrrow. also they have songs with clapping! I love songs with clapping! I'm listening to them this very second and dancing in my chair. woo! their other album is pretty good too "are you thinking what I'm thinking"

7. Jeff Pecina

8. Mez- for some reason I couldn't figure out things and nothing was coming out right. I spent a lot of time reworking it until I got feed up and just went with this. I'll have to try again.

 9. Lindsey Villarreal- I kinda like this one, kinda wished I had more time to do a more polished finish and tweak a few things. y'know, I take it back, I like the ideas, but the likeness missed, chin area is wrong, made nose too big.

 10. Rob Dumo- was in the art fight finals with Alex Clare this year and they both rocked it with some amazing artwork drawn with crazy speed. I kinda like this one, nose could have been a little more pronounced, but I like the shapes of it.
 -------------------------------------

I have a bunch more artwork coming soon, just been working crazy long hours and all the time at the theme park. It's really pretty draining...but we have lots of awesome employees that makes it fun to come to work even when I'm physically and mentally drained all the time, heh. I also found some cool local figure drawing places and have been doing more of that with my awesomely talented friends which is a blast. I have like 30 pieces to post, just gotta find the time to do it... and find more time to go to them. Also, I HAVE been doing more caricatures in the park and taking pictures. Business has been a little slow, and I'm trying some new things out which makes for some iffy drawings as I work out the kinks. but there's some cool ones that I'll get around to posting.

------------------
oh and one of my caricatures was in an article on the website The Huffington post called "Street Portraits Gone Wrong: the Funniest Caricature Drawings Ever" ha ha, it's not one of my best ones but oh well. heh.

Caricature- Alex & Jess heart, family caricature owl, cat b-day '09, Sea World leftover

These are my good friends Alex and Jess. aww, look how cute they are in the photos. I drew this for Jess' birthday a few months ago. Jess has been wanting me to draw them for a while and I have a habit of putting artwork off especially for friends, as I want to make it extra awesometastical for my friends...and so I never feel like I'm good enough so I keep sketching and practicing but I still never feel ready to put pencil to final paper so I just keep putting it off. So usually, it takes something that forces me to get it done like a special occasion ala Jess' birthday to force me to just put something down otherwise I'll never do it. I guess I'm better with deadlines...although I still wait to the last minute like this, heh. that's why working in a theme park is good for me, cause I HAVE to draw the person.

I think I prolly over complicated it by trying to make that overall heart shape, I tend to overthink when I have too much time (again, that's why my theme park caricatures are usually better) thus made their faces more forced. I'm going to do another one of them. oh and Jess is a music buff so I made her pony tail into a treble clef. also check out Alex's art blog, he just updated it with some AWESOME beer label art he got commissioned to do!

eh. didn't go as exaggerated as I wanted/hoped. another caricature for a birthday.

a birthday card for my good friend, Cat Hupp. It's been a while since I've drawn a birthday card, I used to do a lot of them like this for friends. I forgot how fun they were to do.

a left over caricature I forgot to post drawn at Sea World, Orlando when I visited there this past Christmas. I mostly like the connect line from him to her forehead. they had a good laugh and were good sports. I miss that park :(

 ------------------------------------
still have some cripple con 3 artwork to post. I've been mad busy getting things ready for Dorney park which our opening weekend was this past weekend. I drew a bunch of lame-o fast and boring sketches at Dorney the other day. ugh. and of course that's when I sell a bunch of frames with them. I do have a few decent caricatures I drew while I was helping out Six Flags, NJ a couple weeks ago, will try to get to posting them sometime soon as whale as some figure drawing I did at a local drink n draw at the Hard Bean in Bethlehem. which I'll prolly be going on a monthly basis. every 2nd thursday of each month. next one is next week!

I'm tweaking how I'm approaching caricatures a bit, taking some adjustment but hopefully I'll get it worked out soon. Cute-ica-CHUAs, here we come! heh. we'll see...
----------------
misc random ramble thought time!
I'm not a dog person. nor am I a cat person. not that I don't like animals I just don't like the concept of having an animal as a pet running around free in living quarters. I do have an exception, I'm fine with whales living in the house. they're especially nice during the winter as their blubber is good to keep the heat in. it's kind of annoying to have to slice their skin open and live inside them though. but yeah, it's nice and warm inside. also, some guy with a wooden leg and spear keeps trying to sell me life insurance or encyclopedias or something. won't take a hint that I'm not interested.

Caricature- Sean Evans lippage (DEC 2009)

this is Sean Evans, a 1st year caricature artist at Sea World, Florida. He's a cool dude with lots of potential. there are artists who draw a lot but don't really try to get better or hear advice and agree with it but don't really try and apply it. Sean is none of those, he takes suggestions/crits well and tries really hard to improve and he's already made some pretty large strides in improvements, at the rate he's going, he's gonna be one to look out for!
also funny story, Sean somehow stumbled onto my blog and wrote a nice comment on my blog. I checked out his profile and blog and found out that he worked at Sea World and it just so happens that I was going to visit there and be drawing with him in 2 weeks! I thought that was a funny coincidence, and he didn't know that I was coming too.
Sean was the only fellow caricaturist that I drew while I was down at Sea World for 2 weeks. I definitely wanted to draw more of everyone but just didn't get around to it, I'm sure I'll get to it soon. I was relatively happy with this, it's pretty out there and shapey and I think the likeness is pretty decent. Sean always makes that pouty face, prolly should have made the bottom lip bigger- oh well. I've always wanted to push the coloring like this and explore it. I'm a big fan of this sorta very colorful coloring style that some of my very favoritist caricaturists like: David Cowles, Pablo Lobato, Philip Burke do so awesometastic. I want to try selling some live caricatures like this.

more live stuff I did in post below--

caricature- Hugface, running me (SEPT 2009)

my friends, Becca & Lindsay, came into the park and I drew them (the one below)...I don't think I pushed that one enough so I did another one (above). I like the idea of it and the colors but think the likenesses still aren't quite there, especially Lindsay on the right. they had cool shirts!

messing around and drew myself on a slow day at the stand. running for no reason. well, someone prolly mentioned some free cake.

ISCA caricature con'09 and Sea World, Florida, post pics coming up real soon!!

caricature- Kim Martel socket nose! Katie Lawter hair! Katie face mixer! Mike/Brieann face melt! Lauren sushi cupcakes! (AUG 2009)

*11-10-09* so I guess I exceeded my photobucket bandwidth. pics will be back up on the 12th. then I'm going to move pics to another account, sorry about that, folks! gonna start moving a few pics so at least there's something to see in a bit...

*ALSO, if you want to see some caricatures that are a bit older (still updating with newer ones) check out my deviant art page at http://chrischua.deviantart.com/

1. This is the soccer playian kickassian, Kim Martel, and fellow caricature artist at Dorney park. I, on the other hand, am a kickASIAN, heh. This is the second caricature I've done of her- I drew her last year. I like it enough, but still feel like I could have captured her mouth better and I tried something with the background elements that didn't quite work out. Oh, I just threw myself in the reflection in her eyes. Kim has taught me to be careful not too give my goldfish too much water to drink or else they might get bloody noses ;P

2. Flora Robertson. a first year caricature artist that is tremendously talented. and there's my good buddy, Matt Zitman, again in the background, being all Zitman-y. oh and check out the awesome caricature demos in the background- drawn by my other good buddy, Alex Clare, and googley-eyedified improved by Matt and I, hee hee.

3. Katie Lawter. Another 1st year caricature artist that has some impressive skillage. this caricature literally took me forever. seriously, it was more like fiveever. hooray for bad puns, heh! I started over a bunch of times. I missed on her eyes too. oh well, I'll get her next year.

4. Jeff Muniz. airbrush artist and all-around good dude. eh. I missed on likeness but I like some of the lines.

5. another of Lauren Miller. this one was done really quickly. I seem to always draw Lauren really creepy, haha, even though she's like the sweetest girl ever. ha ha, one day I will draw her supa cute.

and here we have awesome "sushi" cupcakes that the aforementioned lovely, Lauren, made for us. she put swedish fish and rice crispies on top. left to right: Alex Clare, Lauren, Matt Zitman, Meself. I love our employees!

6. Katie Stahl. 2nd one of 2nd year caricature artist. I was seeing how far I could push it. I like aspects of it, but don't think it quite came together as much as I had envisioned.

7. Kate Santee. a 4th (or 5th?) year caricature artist. She's also a very very talented artist. She does some great character designs. 1st one I drew of her. I missed on her eyes. I liked the hair.

8. This is my friend and caricature artist, Mike Dias and his cool girlfriend, Brieann. I had an idea and went with it. not sure how well the likenesses are but I think it's kinda fun and really enjoying trying things like this.

cool music to check out- MoZella

in the vein of Lenka/Lilly Allen/Adelle. fun catchy, checky it out. the whole album is pretty conchristantly good. you can listen to all of her new album on her myspace here
